How to Create Accessible Practice for Everyone

Service Description

This workshop is designed for yoga instructors who want to make practice more accessible and inclusive for individuals with disabilities. It incorporates knowledge from both yoga and occupational therapy to address common barriers and ways to facilitate participation through mindful awareness, adaptations, and practice alternatives, while ensuring a safe and collaborative environment for both instructors and their students. The workshop also includes an opportunity to practice techniques and receive feedback. Instructors will be asked to complete a short survey before and after the workshop to measure perceived benefit and opportunities for workshop improvement. Led by Lizzy Trawick, certified yoga instructor and occupational therapy student as part of her final capstone project for her occupational therapy doctorate degree. Lizzy was born with an upper limb difference and leads an inclusive yoga class for individuals with disabilities at Dance Without Limits in Mobile, AL.
